Ryan Martin: Creator and Site Developer

How does one describe one's self? This is always hard to do. When I start to think about it I always come to realize that I don't really know me. Not totally, anyway. I know what I love and what I hate and everything in between, but, is that what really defines yourself? So, at the risk of either bragging or sounding like a complete ass, here goes.

Let's start off with the basics. I was born in 1973. I have taught and instructed web and applications system development in 3 schools and have been a guest speaker at the Tokyo Design Consortium in November 2005. So far I have over 300 websites under my belt and, in addition to working a full time job,  average 2 websites a month for clients ranging from individuals to Fortune 500 companies to State and Federal Governments.

I have won over 25 Design Awards for my web work.

Some of the websites I have designed have been the subject of both magazine and newspaper articles in 2000, 2003, and 2004.

I am currently a Senior Applications Developer for a major Logistics Company.

I can design with equal proficiency in both Windows and Linux platforms.

I'm fluent in six database platforms (both relational and flat file).

I'm certified in most aspects of multimedia, including flash. Through my employment history, I have also been trained and/or certified in multiple programming languages on multiple platforms.

I deeply hate "cowboy coders". I am also an advocate for version control. A surprising number of "developers" I know do not know what this is!

I have been a musician since 1983, primarily guitar, and have recorded a few albums, and have played live in 8 states. I collect guitars and currently own just over 30 ranging in price from $400 to $3500. I also have my own recording studio based on the Pro Tools format. My family is considered a family of musicians. My younger brother is a well known, Fort Wayne, area bass player. My grandfather was a jazz musician in the 30's and 40's. My grandmother was a pianist as well as my cousin.

In addition to 3 albums, I have also recorded music for commercials.

I have one brother and my parents are still married.

I have been engaged twice and married once.

I have been in 8 major relationships since becoming an adult. Four of these women were born on January 27th.

I drive a sports car. I actually got talked into buying it. I went in for an oil change on a new car that I bought 4 months previous, got caught looking at my current car, and next thing you know I'm buying it. But I only bought it after the salesman promised 0% interest. So I'm actually paying less on a car that is one year newer and $10000 more.

I have a deviated septum which forces me to sleep with a CPAP machine. I average four hours of sleep a night.

I have worked non-stop for up to 3 days with no break on more than one occasion.

I have visited three continents. Two in the last five years.

Programming and Development has become more than a full time job for me. Sometimes working 60 hours a week at work only to come home with contract work and side projects waiting for me.

Websites that use free templates and pre-configured, self installable files (ie phpbb, flickr, etc...) really piss me off. If you can't design something yourself or even take the gumption to learn then just sign up for typepad.

In addition to collectiong guitars, I also collect watches. I currently own around 100 watches ranging from Seiko to Berringer to Tag Heuer.

It may sound like bragging on this page, but in real life I am actually quite soft spoken. I have to get to know you before I begin to really talk with you.

I really love to cook. My favorite occasions are when I am cooking for a small group of people.

Here is where I spend most of my days. This is my home office, The Creation Station.
