Taryn has been drumming for 15 years and specialises in double bass and multi-pedal orchestration,her preferred style of music is hard rock,but has also taken a keen interest in Latin. She has a unique style of double bass which stems from her 21 years of tap dancing.She creates patterns with her feet using tap steps and converts them to the kit.Dancing since the age of 3, in the fields of tap,modern and ballet has also given this young drummer from Johannesburg South Africa a keen sense of rhythm.Taryn has been performing on stage from an early age and has won many a talent competition to date. She has set her sights on becoming one the best female drummers in the world and so far has been rated one of the top female drummers in the country. one of her biggest achievements was coming 2nd in battle of the drummers,competing against all male contestants and one other female. She has played live on radio station 5fm for 2 time SAMA winner Tasha Baxter and performed at the Nike women's wear launch at Sandton Convention center as well as at the venue for Goldwell. She has also rocked Virgin Active gyms around the country,Playing the drums for the popular Zumba fitness workout with her sister Verna Young with whom she has a drum duo group called Lipstick Percussion Where they perform at corporate events. Taryn has also played in many band and entered her first battle of the bands at age 12 and second at age 13. Since then she has worked with top musicians around the country and continues to do so.Taryn is also a drumming and piano teacher and has completed her Trinity London Rock School and Unisa piano Theory grades as well as acquiring her grade 12 in Jazz tap
Taryn has two drumsets:
DW 14'' 12'' 13'' 16'' 22'' And plays DW5000 Double Pedals with a Gibraltor and Meinl percussion foot pedal,this kit also has Lp percussion hand blocks and Zildjian,Sabian and Istanbul cymbals
